3rd Annual Waterford Film Festival : 6 - 8th of November

Opening night!

Venue: Greyfrairs Art Gallery, Waterford City.
Date: Friday the 6th of November 2009
Time : 7:30 pm

Bitterness - Joseph DelondThe opening film "Bitterness" is an independent film by Dublin filmmaker Joseph Delond and it is Delond’s debut feature film.

It is a hilarious story about a man by the name of Francis who has been jilted at the altar and has become a very bitter man. His life, as he sees it, is in tatters because the world stops him from being happy. Ironically everyone he knows seems to be happy.

This year's line-up ...

During the summer we received hundreds of films from around the world. Films came in from across Europe, Asia, Africa, America, and Australia. We also introduced a screenplay competition in which we received over one hundred submissions from screenplay writers from across Ireland, U.K. and mainland Europe. Not only was it difficult to pick twenty finalists out of all those screenplays, it was very difficult for us to pick the films this year as there was such a great amount of high quality films. We would have liked to have screened more but unfortunately due to our current financial situation it was not possible.

Over the last couple of years we have received great support from local business and sponsors, in addition to core funding from Waterford City Council and Failte Ireland but unfortunately due to lack of funds and overall small amount of ticket sales, the festival has struggled to cover its running costs and due to the current economic climate our funding has been reduced. This does not make us unique amongst other festivals or art organisations but as a young event the effects are more pronounced.

We have put together a variety of high quality films from local, national and international filmmakers. Each of these films has a different background. Some of them have screened internationally and have won awards while others will be screened for the very first time here at the Waterford Film Festival. We found all these films to be entertaining in different ways and there is a subject to suit everyone's taste.

So if you happen to be in town during the festival pop into the Greyfrairs Art Gallery where a World of Cinema Entertainment awaits you.
